Each day before dawn (6:15 am) the adults and counselors meet for a review of the day’s agenda and specifically for prayer. After the counselors are released to awaken their campers, we all trek to breakfast.
Areté in total converge for the most important activity of the week—the Bible classes; three per day plus personal devotional time for further study.
This morning began with a lesson from Pastor Brad Maston (designed by Clay Ward) on Inductive Study Methods. The main message is that one does not have to have a degree in theology to study the Word. “Bible study is not the exclusive domain of the Pastor!” Inductive methods include observation, interpretation, correlation, and application. We must approach the Bible as a lifeline rather than an unreachable document that is impossible to understand. Yes, impossible without the Holy Spirit, but very accessible to all believers who desire to learn its treasures and do it God’s way!
The mid-day lesson was taught by Pastor David Roseland on theology. Central questions were “What does the passage say,” and “What does it mean?” The meaning is to decide what is God’s interpretation. An important correlation skill: learn to ask good questions! And learn to compare Scripture with Scripture.
Several games were played to help the campers learn each other’s names. Girls moved to an upgraded cabin due to plumbing issues, while boys received a “man to man” pep talk from Pastor Roseland. We need men of valor and future spiritual leaders for homes and churches!
The evening class was taught by Jeff Phipps, our camp director. Application of the Christian way of life and that love is not always approval. Sometimes separation from evil is necessary when friends choose unwisely. Confession is only a start, but abiding is where the Spirit-led life occurs.
