Day 3 of Camp Areté: A Journey of Faith and Fun
Day three at Camp Areté was nothing short of exhilarating. The day kicked off with an Apostolic Scavenger Hunt, where campers were challenged to find and guess the apostles based on some tough clues. Despite the difficulty, the campers did surprisingly well, showcasing their biblical knowledge and teamwork. This was followed by a lively session of Water Balloon Bible Trivia, which not only refreshed the campers physically but also spiritually as they delved into scripture. Tribal relays and free time rounded out a busy, fun-filled day that left everyone energized and closer.
On the teaching front, we were delighted to welcome back Pastor Roseland, thanks to your prayers. His sessions began unpacking the prophecy portion of Daniel, with Brad providing insightful perspectives on how government authority is derived from God. Brad highlighted the striking context in which Paul wrote about obeying governing authorities—during a time when Rome was persecuting Christians. This historical perspective offered profound insights into our current political climate and the believer’s obligation to obey governing authorities unless they “directly contradict Gods commands found in scripture.” Jeff continued the exploration of Daniel, contrasting the kingdom of man with the kingdom of God, bringing to light the dramatic events of the first two chapters. Nebuchadnezzar’s tyrannical threats contrasted sharply with Daniel’s calm, prayerful response, standing firm in God’s Word and fully trusting Him for the outcome. All of this underscoring the power and peace found in God’s kingdom and hollow vanity of the kingdom of man.
Not a day goes by without a clear delineation of the Gospel with Paul’s admonition in Galatians about keeping it unadulterated and John’s very clear message in chapter three verse sixteen. Three times a day at each teaching session we go over these. No kid will ever leave Camp Areté without understanding what the Gospel of Jesus Christ Crucified is – exactly.
The day concluded with a Pastors’ Panel, where campers anonymously submitted questions for our pastors to address. The questions were profound, and covered a wide array of topics, homosexuality, dating, eternal security, choosing a church, God’s guidance in difficult times. The questions are anonymous but they serve two purposes: first is our opportunity to offer biblical insights, because, as you know, we think God’s Word speaks to every area of life. These questions also serve as a framework for the counselors to refine their time with campers and reinforce a biblical perspective on the challenges these young men and women are struggling with.
