“Lights”
Philippians 2:15, “… among whom you shine as lights in the world.” (NKJV)
Wednesday was the day the tribes really brought it. Bible Olympics in the morning, the Round Robin in the afternoon, and every tribe left something on the field.
The football was intense from the first whistle, with the Fellowship of the Phillies dominating on the gridiron. The Humblebees answered by taking the volleyball championship. The United Stakes of Areté won the cheer competition outright. And Joy Story walked away with the sportsmanship award, which around here counts for a lot. It is one thing to win. It is another to compete the way Christ would.
The teaching went deep today, three trips through Philippians 2. In the morning, Paul’s charge to do everything without complaining or arguing, so that we “shine as lights in the world.” In the afternoon, Pastor Dave took the students into the deep end with a full session on the hypostatic union, the question of exactly who Jesus is. And in the evening, the stories of Timothy and Epaphroditus, two men who wore themselves out serving others instead of themselves.
Put it together and you get a picture of what it looks like to shine. No grumbling. No chasing the spotlight. Just holding on to Christ and pouring yourself out for the people around you.
Then the day softened. As the sun went down, the camp gathered around the fire for s’mores, a call home, and a karaoke night that will live in infamy. There were full-throated takes on “Sweet Child O’ Mine” and “Bohemian Rhapsody,” delivered with a lot more heart than pitch. If your camper called you tonight with marshmallow on their face and a raspy voice, now you know why.

Huge shakeup today. The Humblebees hold on to first, but Joy Story and the Fellowship of the Phillies both surged, and the United Stakes slid from second all the way to fourth. With the biggest days still to come, anyone can win this.
